Dayton is perhaps most well-known, historically, for Wilbur and Orville - the Wright Brothers - who perfected controlled flight in heavier-than-air flying machines at Huffman Prairie and Flying Field. In October of 1905, they managed to stay aloft here for 39 minutes, flying 24 miles - until they ran out of fuel! |
This is a replica of a 1902 Wright glider, on display at the Historical Park Visitors Center in Dayton. |
Huffman Prairie Flying Field - an 84-acre pasture and the largest prairie remnant in Ohio. The field is now an active part of the Wright-Patterson Air Force Base as well as part of the National Aviation Heritage Area. |
Massive blooms color the landscape at Huffman Prairie! |
