Dayton is perhaps most well-known, historically, for Wilbur and Orville - the Wright Brothers - who perfected controlled flight in heavier-than-air flying machines at Huffman Prairie and Flying Field. In October of 1905, they managed to stay aloft here for 39 minutes, flying 24 miles - until they ran out of fuel!

This is a replica of a 1902 Wright glider, on display at the Historical Park Visitors Center in Dayton.

Huffman Prairie Flying Field - an 84-acre pasture and the largest prairie remnant in Ohio. The field is now an active part of the Wright-Patterson Air Force Base as well as part of the National Aviation Heritage Area.

Massive blooms color the landscape at Huffman Prairie!

...and lastly, this is the Wilbur and Orville Wright Memorial at the Huffman Flying Field Interpretive Center, located at the edge of Wright-Patterson AFB, just east of Dayton...
