D&D Travel's Roadside America Series - Six Gun City,

Jefferson, New Hampshire, September, 2020...

As some of you may know, we are roadside America buffs, exploring the likes of Old Route 66 from Chicago to Los Angeles, the Old Catskill Game Farm in upstate New York, among other "lost" treasures across the country. For you Americana/nostalgia aficionados, we were passing by Six Gun City, aka Fort Jefferson Fun Park, on Route 2 in Jefferson, New Hampshire the weekend of September 18 and decided to have a peek at the now-defunct family attraction. Opened by the Brady family in the early 1950s, the western-themed park closed in 2014 and re-opened as Fort Jefferson Fun Park, with water-based rides and attractions added. According to WMUR, "When first opened, there was an Indian Camp, and a Gift Shop. Visitors were entertained by Cowboy Skits, stagecoach and pony rides, as well as artifacts on display. In the early 1960s, a commitment was made to preserve many of the area's antique carriages, wagons and sleighs, according to its website [recently defunct as well]." The park appears to have been open as late as 2018, but is now closed. We were able to walk around the grounds a bit and record the following 26 images before the place, still in reasonably good shape, deteriorates further - becoming yet another piece of lost roadside America...   - D&D
