A craftsman operates a hand-weaving machine at Avoca Handweavers in the village of the same name. High-quality hand-woven goods are still produced and sold at the shop and in locations all over Ireland - and the world. Avoca Handweavers has been operating since 1723!

Look familiar? This is the village of Avoca, as seen in the late afternoon light, from the bridge over the river of the same name. Avoca supplied most of the exterior locations for the filming of the BBC television series Ballykissangel, seen around the world and in the US primarily on PBS. It was shot from 1996 through 2001 and is still very popular in reruns...

Johnnie Fox's Pub, high atop the Dublin Mountains in Glencullen. It is billed as the highest pub in Ireland and is a treasure trove of antiques and bric-a-brac...and a VERY popular pub with both locals and tourists alike...

A peat (or "turf") fire burns in the pub, keeping the interior warm and cozy. Peat is still a major source of fuel, both for heating and cooking, especially in rural Ireland...

The grounds of Powerscourt House and Gardens in Enniskerry, County Wicklow. This is the site of the most recent Celtic Woman concert "Songs from the Heart." Part of the house is restored and is home to a number of shops. The remainder, except for the restored ballroom, was damaged by fire some time ago, is not open to the public. The grounds host Italian, Japanese and walled gardens, statuary from around the world, fountains and even a round "Pepperpot" tower dating from 1911. There are two ponds on the property...
