Above and the next seven images: On display - Chihuly: The Nature of Glass - at the garden. Artist Dale Chihuly's work is included in more than 200 museums worldwide. Here at the Desert Botanical Garden in Phoenix, Arizona, his lovely glass sculptures are "planted" amongst the cactus and desert flowers - a first for the famed artist...

Penstemon - a desert bloom with 5 stamens, is a relative of the Snapdragon. It is found in the Grand Canyon area up to 7000 feet and has medicinal properties, having been used as such by the Navajo and other native peoples. It can reach heights of four feet, bloomimg from March to May.

The Butterfly Pavilion, open March through May at the Desert Botanical Garden. Above, a Julia (Dyras iulia) spreads its wings for the camera...If the timing is right, you are given envelopes that contain butterflies, ready to be carefully released into the exhibit!

A beautiful, recently-hatched Zebra Swallowtail (Eurytides marcellus)...

Feeding on nectar from a desert bloom, a Spicebush Swallowtail (Papilio troilus) spreads its wings

Doing the same is a Zebra Longwing (Heliconius charitonius)

Another Zebra Swallowtail enjoys a snack, displaying its lovely colors...
