Visit Death Valley National Park! Explore off season, perhaps in early Spring, when the weather is reasonable (March is a good time, with temps in the 80s to 90s during the day). Many areas allow great night views of the Milky Way with virtually zero light pollution. The gorgeous, varied landscapes here will give you the feeling of being on another planet!

Consider the "other" Grand Canyon - Grand Canyon West, Arizona. About 125 easy miles east of Las Vegas and operated by the Hualapai Indian Tribe, the area is home to the Skywalk - a glass walkway jutting out over the canyon. Adjacent is the helicopter base along with unfenced access to incredible views such as the above. One trip you might consider is a rafting adventure on the Colorado River from Peach Springs. Departing where Diamond Creek meets the mighty Colorado, you'll end the float trip by helicopter, transporting you to the Skywalk area...

In remote northern Washington State, a ride to North Cascades National Park includes passing through Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest...with fantastic views of Picture Lake (above). Further along, at road's end, is Artist's Point - as beautiful as it gets...Not far from Seattle of course, is the incredible Mt. Rainier National Park! A visit during wildflower season can be breathtaking (image below)!

ROAD TRIP!!! Take a trip along the Mother Road - Old Route 66 - and see Americana at its best. While some sites are disappearing, many attractions from the heyday of 66 remain, like the 1932 brick-paved section above in Auburn, Illinois. The road once connected Chicago with Los Angeles and both Illinois and Arizona have extensively-preserved sections, much of it original alignment, that can still be traveled!

Make Hawaii a priority if you can! Above is Waimea Canyon on Kauai. The Road to Hana and the ride up to Haleakala, both on Maui, are stunning and not to be missed! Plan on at least 10 days in order to enjoy at least Oahu, Maui and Kauai...and the Big Island of Hawaii if time permits. Flight times are long from the east coast so allow for that as well!

Another destination that should be near the top of your list is Alaska...and Glacier Bay. As you can see, the scenery is magnificent! Best way to experience this beauty is by Cruise-tour, encompassing the best of land and sea. Second best is a cruise, one-way if you can. That will allow you to travel north from Seattle or Vancouver through the Gulf of Alaska and eventually end up in Anchorage (on a northbound sailing) or vice-versa on a southbound trip. Climate change IS real and the glaciers really are melting and receding. Now is the time to go!

Rounding out our top 7 is Crater Lake National Park in Oregon. Yes, it really IS this blue and the above image only shows a portion of this unworldly lake that fills an ancient crater. The vivid color is due to the water's depth and clarity and a ring road will take you around its entire circumference in summer. This truly should be on your not-to-be-missed list! Thanks for looking and let us know how we can help plan a visit to any of these great destinations!  - Dennis and Donna
